Rape Victim Justice, Saudi-Style

Things sure are different down in the heartland of Islam, even in terms of judicial attitudes to rape.

A Saudi court has sentenced a gang rape victim to 90 lashes of the whip because she was alone in a car with a man to whom she was not married.

The sentence was passed at the end of a trial in which the al- Qateef high criminal court convicted four Saudis convicted of the rape, sentencing them to prison terms and a total of 2,230 lashes.

The four, all married, were sentenced respectively to five years and 1,000 lashes, four years and 800 lashes, four years and 350 lashes, and one year and 80 lashes.

Saudi courts take marital status into account in sexual crimes. A male friend of the rape victim was also sentenced to 90 lashes for being alone with her in the car.

The ignorant slut! What was she doing alone in a car with a man she wasn't married to? Why, the brazen hussy was practically begging for it acting like that, and 90 lashes is virtually nothing, all things considered!*

Joking aside, for me the most shocking thing about this story isn't its content per se - that the Sharia "justice" code is a barbaric medieval relic is something I've long been proclaiming on here, after all - but that so-called Western "progressives" like Ken Livingstone and company so willingly embrace a religion utterly opposed to the rights of another of their supposed causes, namely female equality; even more alarming is that precious few "feminists" have anything worthwhile to say about such duplicity, let alone about the savagery women all over the Muslim world have to live with, though almost to a woman they do have something to say about George Bush.

*For the reasoning impaired, the preceding sentences are an instance of what is called "sarcasm" ...
