Ahmadinejad, Historian and Logician

We long ago established that Iran's new president is a hate-filled bigot with a big mouth - which is pretty much a requirement for being president of Iran - but did you also know that he is an accomplished student of history and dialectic?

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday the Holocaust is a "myth" that Europeans have used to create a Jewish state in the heart of the Islamic world.

"Today, they have created a myth in the name of Holocaust and consider it to be above God, religion and the prophets," Ahmadinejad told a crowd of thousands in the southeastern city of Zahedan.

Ahmadinejad said it was the Europeans who committed crimes against the Jews and they, the United States or Canada should give part of their land to the Jews to establish a state.

"If you (Europeans) committed this big crime, then why should the oppressed Palestinian nation pay the price?" Ahmadinejad asked rhetorically Wednesday. "You (Europeans) have to pay the compensation yourself.

"This is our proposal: give a part of your own land in Europe, the United States, Canada or Alaska to them (Jews) so that the Jews can establish their country," he said.

What an accomplished thinker this man is! What a meticulous scholar! First he starts off by denying the Holocaust ever happened, then he accuses the Europeans of committing the crime he insists never happened, and finally he suggests that America and Canada should give up land to atone for a crime which he insists a third party never carried out, even as he lambasts the West for supposedly forcing Muslims to do the exact same thing: with such a brilliant mind in charge of Iran, surely the country's future is in safe hands ...

As I am all about being helpful, I'll pass on that this was originally a Michael Moore joke; that the reparations and settlement for the Second World War should have involved the Jews being given a homeland in Bavaria and the Germans being sent out to make the desert bloom. I remember thinking it was not exactly his finest hour when I read it; I think it's in "Downsize This!"

I thought Madagascar was the "Jewish homeland" traditionally designated by this type of "thinker". With the cerebral prowess he's been showing recently, Ahmadinejad's well on his way to becoming Iran's very own Turkmenbashi.
