I once read a part of some Jeremy Bentham work that discussed sexual mores. Bentham was pretty... uh... permissive. For example, he thought that bestiality should be decriminalized and generally quietly ignored and not talked about. But when it came to masturbation, he was all in favor of repression, because it was (allegedly) so unhealthy.

This reminds me of Pearl Jam's Vitalogy
book/cd case. It's written as a victorian guide book to ghosts phrenology the evils of masturbation and longevity.

What a strange contadiciton, to condemn masturbation and turn a blind eye to bestiality just doesnt make since to me.
