An Australian medical study, carried out on 6,400 women over the course of 10 years, has managed to establish what many men already long believed: that there's something about getting married and having children which stimulates women to pack on the pounds, even when compared to single women of the same age group. The article manages to throw in some quotes from some nutritionist called "Jennifer Sygo", who offers two alternatives: either married women care less than single ones do because they've already managed to snare a sucker partner, or they're fatter because they have less time for "exercise and healthy eating", but it doesn't take a genius to see which of the two possibilities is far more likely, does it?
There is nothing more to keeping one's weight under control than restraining one's appetite, and eating less than one might wish to is actually more likely when one has a hectic schedule than when one has a more sedate pace of life; eating takes time like any other activity, so it is harder to gorge oneself like a pig at the trough when children are there to compete for one's time. The real reason why married women put on more weight than single ones is because they think they can stop caring so much about how they look - or at least they think they can stop caring, until hubby gets fed up looking at the bloated creature he's saddled with and decides to trader it in for a younger and svelter model, and I am certain that I'm right on this issue because I've seen and heard any number of women go on about how they can't wait until after their weddings, when they can finally let themselves go to seed (only yesterday I overheard someone openly stating her intention to stop visiting the gym after getting that wedding ring on her finger).
Oh, and by the way, anyone even thinking about arguing with me on this one had better go here first. If "altered body chemistry" or being pressed for time has anything to do with weight gain, why is that men who live in with their girlfriends pile on more weight than men who live alone, while men who are married put on even more fat?
