Part of what makes The Onion such a pleasure to read is how closely the real world often tracks it. Will that be the case on this occasion as well?
HONOLULU—In an announcement that has rocked the world of professional golf, longtime men's golfer Michelle Wie said Monday that she is planning to participate in the LPGA's season-opening SBS Open next February, which would make her the first woman to enter such an event since 32 women competed in the ADT Championship last weekend. "I have accomplished everything I am capable of accomplishing on the men's tour," said Wie, who finished second-to-last and missed the cut by 17 strokes in the men's Casio World Open earlier this month. "I'm looking for a real challenge—one within reasonable limits that I actually have a legitimate chance to surmount. If only the real Michelle Wie (or rather, her parents) were as sensible - seems like some people have never heard the saying "you have to learn how to walk before you can run." One is tempted to say Michelle Wie is the new Anna Kournikova, except that would be unfair to Ms. Kournikova, who actually qualified for all the tournaments she participated in, rather than getting in based solely on exemptions from sponsors looking to draw in lustful men wanting to take a peek at a schoolgirl's long legs.
