Utter Tosh

I am thoroughly disappointed to see such drivel as that spewed by Matt Young appearing on the Panda's Thumb blog; a clearer cut case of abusing one's authority in one field to pretend at a non-existent expertise in another is hard to imagine. I'd count it amongst one of the labors of Hercules to attempt to point out all the straw-men, logical absurdities and factual errors in Young's post, but what would be the point?

Biologists who've never opened an economics textbook or had the slightest brush with the world of commerce should know well enough to keep their mouths shut rather than spew insulting rubbish about the wicked motivations of people engaging in activities they don't understand. Why do people like Young expect any more respect for their daft musings than they themselves are inclined to extend to creationists who dismiss their views on evolution as motivated by the devil?

if i had more time, i would jump in. but you go!

but what would be the point?
There would be no point at all, inasmuch as pseudoscience is for all practical purposes a demand-side problem. If people can't get their fix of salvation ideology "you are better/purer than the others" at the Panda, they will get it someplace else.
