Brian

Too many of Bush's opponents (of which I am one) repeatedly misunderestimate him. They confuse lack of coherent verbal skills with stupidity.

I've always said: never underestimate the value of being underestimated. Bush has been politically successful because people assume he's a bumbling fool and take him seriously until it's too late. I think he lulls them into complacency.

Is he a genius? Probably not. But he knows what he wants to do and how to achieve it. He's a lot smarter pol than people generally assume.

The true fault I'd ascribe to him is an apparent unwillingness consider the slightest possibility that he might be mistaken.
